Contest in Piribebuy Seeks to Preserve the Technique of the Traditional Poncho Para’i of 60 Stripes

The National Secretariat of Culture, the Paraguayan Institute of Crafts, the Pussineri Foundation and the Municipality of Piribebuy, with support from UNESCO, launched a mastery contest for the elaboration of the Poncho Para’i of 60 Stripes, an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The in-person competition will be on May 20 at the Demetrio Ortiz Cultural Center in Piribebuy.

Taiwan Embassy Leads Cleanup Drive on Asunción's Costanera, Exposing Chronic Creek Crisis

Under the motto 'Let's Clean Our Costanera', the Taiwan Embassy and the Asunción City Hall organized a large cleanup drive along the Paraguayan capital's waterfront. The action, which involved volunteers and local entities, highlighted the severe pollution of the Mburicaó, Antequera, and Las Mercedes creeks, which dump tons of garbage and sewage into Asunción Bay. Experts point out that without basic sanitation and enforcement, such drives are merely palliative.
